About Cheryl
Cheryl Y. Skeete is a 25 year veteran educator in the Newark Public Schools. Born in London and reared in Union County, New Jersey, Ms. Skeete earned an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and History and a graduate degree in Administration and Supervision from Kean University in Union, New Jersey. In addition to her work as an educator, Ms. Skeete is a dedicated union activist and servant-leader with levels of increasing responsibilities culminating in her distinguished tenure as the Executive Vice President for the American Federation of Teachers Pre K-12 Division. A passionate advocate of quality school facilities, Ms. Skeete is a board member of Work Environmental Council of New Jersey, the nation’s oldest blue-green alliance, as well as a member of the Steering Committee of Healthy Schools Now, a coalition of public school advocates dedicated to ensuring all NJ children and school employees learn and work in a safe, healthy, modern environment. Residing in Union County, Ms. Skeete is the proud parent of two daughters and the proud grandparent of one granddaughter. AFT-NJ is a federator of educators and other school employee organizations, including the Council of NJ State College Locals, AFT-Rutgers, and local unions in private and public schools.
