About Diana
Diana Mejia, was an undocumented immigrant from Colombia, SA and is now the co-founder of Colectivo, and a member and co-director of Wind of the Spirit Immigrant Resource Center. Wind of the Spirit is an inter faith grassroots immigrant led organization that educates, organizes, and mobilizes immigrant families through humane immigration policies. The organization uses the human rights framework and popular education methodology as a political tool to build the worker’s power.
Founded in the year 2000 with a collective vision and effort, WotS has trained more than 15,000 workers in H&S, preventing wage theft and training in labor, as well as, human and constitutional rights. Reaching out to thousands of immigrant’s families, WotS has been leading the NJ Driver’s License campaign, the in-state tuition for undocumented, municipals IDs, Fair and Welcoming Communities and successfully stopping the 287 implementations in Morristown, NJ. During the COVID pandemic with Diana’s leadership there were zero incidents. WotS never closed during the pandemic. It deployed Community Promoters to train and help community members to continue the census 2020, educate about how to protect yourself from COVID 19, and other human rights issues. WotS is a founded member of NDLON and NJAIJ is member of NDWA, CFEN, WEC and works very closely with the Labor Institute, and the United Steel Workers.
