Job Posting: Jersey Renews Organizer

(WEC) is a coalition of 70 labor, community, and environmental organizations advocating for safe, secure jobs and a healthy, sustainable environment. WEC seeks a full-time, experienced Campaign Organizer for the Jersey Renews effort based in our Trenton office. The position begins ASAP and no later than April 1 and is a 12-month full-time position with the option to renew if funding is secured. The person hired will organize and expand Jersey Renews’ dynamic, statewide grassroots advocacy and organizing efforts. The campaign focuses on making New Jersey a leader on state-based climate policy, including emissions reductions, increased clean energy production the creation of family-sustaining jobs, and reduced air pollution. The campaign organizer will work to build and maintain a broad-based, multi-sector alliance which includes partners in the climate/environmental, labor, community-based, faith, and other sectors  and coordinate events, including meetings for the steering committee, the larger coalition, opinion leaders, legislative stakeholders, the media and others. Job Posting: Freelance Writer

Free-lance writer for monthly labor union magazine The New Jersey Work Environment Council (WEC) seeks a free-lance writer to conceptualize, research and compose ten 1,000-word byline articles a year on school health and safety issues for the New Jersey Education Association’s NJEA Review. You will be expected to spend approximately 12 hours per article. Pay is $500 per article. Articles will be due for review one week before the end of the month from February to April 2018 and then July 2018 through April 2019 and so on for each school year. You will need to interview WEC staff, NJEA UniServ field representatives, NJEA local association officers and members, and WEC industrial hygiene consultants to conceptualize and research the articles. Internet research may also be needed. Preference given to individuals who have written for or about labor unions and union activism and organizing. See past articles online here. HIRING: Campaign Organizer for Jersey Renews

Intern with WEC

Are you interested in working with a progressive organization to advance labor and environmental policies in New Jersey? The NJ Work Environment Council (WEC), an alliance of 70 labor, environmental, and community organizations, working for safe, secure jobs and a healthy, sustainable environment, provides regular internship opportunities. Interns will assist with the following WEC led campaigns: Healthy Schools Now: To demand that all New Jersey children and school employees learn and work in safe, modern school buildings. Public Need Over Corporate Greed: To educate thousands of activists about the effects of Wall Street’s financial strip mining on our economy and empower them to take action on a state-based policy agenda. Addressing Climate Change: To push for meaningful energy and climate policy changes in New Jersey. Respect Our Right to Know: To ensure our right to know about rail car hazards; safer alternatives at industrial facilities; the real names of chemicals; and municipal and county emergency response plans. Preventing Chemical Disasters: To strengthen Federal chemical safety and security laws to incorporate safer chemicals and processes where feasible.
