The New Jersey Work Environment Council (WEC) is a coalition of 70 labor, community, and environmental organizations advocating for safe, secure jobs and a healthy, sustainable environment. WEC seeks a full time, experienced Campaign Organizer based in our Trenton area office. The deadline to apply is March 15, 2022. The person hired will organize and expand a dynamic grassroots advocacy coalition: Healthy Schools Now (HSN). The HSN coalition focuses on ensuring that all New Jersey children and school employees learn and work in healthy, safe, and modern public schools. The campaign focuses on Schools Development Authority (SDA) districts, formerly the “Abbott” districts. Priority will be given to securing reauthorization of funding for these underserved communities as well as regular operating district (ROD) grants. Job Posting: Office Manager

The New Jersey Work Environment Council (WEC) is a coalition of 70 labor, community, and environmental organizations advocating for safe, secure jobs and a healthy, sustainable environment. WEC seeks an experienced Office Manager to be responsible for the general operation of our office and provide support to the Executive Director and Staff. This position begins ASAP and is part-time, Monday - Thursday/32 hours a week. The deadline to apply is January 20, 2022, and ideally the position will begin on February 1. WEC Seeks Industrial Hygiene Consultant

The New Jersey Work Environment Council (WEC) is a coalition of 70 labor, community, and environmental organizations advocating for safe, secure jobs and a healthy, sustainable environment. WEC seeks an industrial hygiene (IH) consultant to provide technical assistance on an as needed basis to WEC members. The primary function of this position will be to identify and resolve environmental health and safety concerns, and to encourage all affected parties to work together in creating a safe and healthy workplace. Responsibilities: The industrial hygiene consultant will have these responsibilities: • Providing technical assistance with emphasis on organizing. • Presenting workshops on topics such as using health and safety organizing. • Interpreting IH reports into terms for a popular audience. (No IH sampling involved.) • Attending and occasionally speaking at meetings and workshops of unions, community, and environmental organizations. • On occasion, providing training to workers, parents and community stakeholders. • Developing or edit materials including but not limited to fact sheets. Job Opening at WEC: Occupational Health & Safety Trainer

WEC is an affiliate of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health. WEC works in multiple issue areas that are at the intersection of the labor and environmental movement. WEC is the nation’s longest standing state labor/environmental coalition and is an affiliate of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health. Description WEC seeks a full-time bi-lingual occupational health & safety (level 1) trainer to conduct health and safety trainings, with an emphasis on COVID prevention and awareness for workers. Audience includes workers, hard to reach workers, unions, employers, and community organizations. This position will help WEC provide worker-oriented training, building the regional health and safety movement and developing working relationships with labor, environmental and community organizations. (WEC) is a coalition of 70 labor, community, and environmental organizations advocating for safe, secure jobs and a healthy, sustainable environment. WEC seeks a full-time, experienced Campaign Organizer for the Jersey Renews effort based in our Trenton office. Job Posting: Freelance Writer

Free-lance writer for monthly labor union magazine The New Jersey Work Environment Council (WEC) seeks a free-lance writer to conceptualize, research and compose ten 1,000-word byline articles a year on school health and safety issues for the New Jersey Education Association’s NJEA Review. You will be expected to spend approximately 12 hours per article. Pay is $500 per article. Articles will be due for review one week before the end of the month from February to April 2018 and then July 2018 through April 2019 and so on for each school year. You will need to interview WEC staff, NJEA UniServ field representatives, NJEA local association officers and members, and WEC industrial hygiene consultants to conceptualize and research the articles. Internet research may also be needed. Preference given to individuals who have written for or about labor unions and union activism and organizing. See past articles online here.
