About Steve
Steve Beatty, a high school social studies teacher in the Bridgewater-Raritan school district, is president of the New Jersey Education Association. Beatty was elected to his first two-year term effective September 1, 2025.
Beatty previously served as NJEA Secretary-Treasurer (2017 – 2021) and Vice President (2021-2025). As an elected officer of NJEA, Beatty has worked tirelessly to address the needs of all members, from Tomorrow’s Teachers, which helps support high school students interested in education, to preservice educators, to retired members. He continues to work toward expanding collective bargaining rights, increasing compensation, broadening health benefits packages, restoring a fair evaluation system and ensuring full funding of public employee pensions.
Before becoming an NJEA officer, Beatty was president of the Somerset County Education Association (2013-17) and the Bridgewater-Raritan Education Association (2004-17). He also served as second vice president, grievance chair, and on the negotiations team in Bridgewater-Raritan. At NJEA, Beatty chaired the Government Relations Committee (2011-17), was secretary-treasurer for the County Presidents Council, and represented Somerset County on the Delegate Assembly.
